There were no issues with the grass cutting, Councillor Colclough stated that there was to be one more cut this year
In respect of the Picnic Bench it was initially anticipated that the workers at Anston who were to be utilised would install this. However Councillor Collingwood stated that there had not been great progress with this issue as it was having to proceed to the Anston Parish Council Staffing Committee. As such it was anticipated that some jobs on the list of improvements would not get done this year due to the changing weather and Councillor Collingwood stated that he would continue to pursue this matter with Anston Parish Council. As such Cllr Marsh agreed that he would install that he would take care of ordering and installing the park bench in the spring.
- Village Maintenance – Sorby verge wooden posts, Coronation Garden, Road Sweep, etc.
It had been agreed that 12 wooden posts would be replaced, Cllr Colclough had spoken to RMBC and was now waiting for the posts to be delivered, and installation date would be provided subsequently
In respect of Coronation Garden there was a Thorpe in Bloom meeting due to take place tomorrow at which this matter would be discussed.
In relation to the road sweep, RMBC had stated that both sweepers were off the road but that they would try and provide a date when this would happen over the next two weeks. Councillor Cox stated that he would try contacting a couple of hire companies as an alternative with associated costs.
c) Village Sign
Councillor Cox stated that the Village Sign was due to be installed on 28 October.
d) Road Safety
Councillor Collingwood stated that he had written to Councillor Baum Dixon who had chased up this issue. Councillor Colclough stated that the Parish Council had not been notified that the Parish Council was no longer on the RMBC list for road safety improvements for this financial year. RMBC did state it was due to expected Yorkshire Water works that would entail digging up some sections of the highway.
Councillor Collingwood stated that he would continue to pursue this.
- Slaypit Lane – Dog Fouling
Although the dog fouling had reduced at Slaypit Lane, concern was raised that their was an amount within the churchyard. It was noted that there was an intention for the churchyard to be locked at 2 entry points leaving just the main gate open. Councillor Johnson stated that she would put a notice about this on the Facebook page.
In relation to Slaypit Lane itself, Councillor Cox stated that it would be beneficial for the grass in the middle of the lane to be removed, the road itself being an adopted road. Councillor Johnson stated that she would ask RMBC to do that.
Councillor Collingwood stated that RMBC had said that they were going to send someone out to inspect this issue, to see if it was urgent. Councillor Collingwood stated that the branches were still overhanging and as such he stated that he would chase up RMBC, on the basis that a branch had fallen off and that a resident had raised it with him.
g) Remembrance Day Recognition
Councillor Collingwood stated that he had counted the number of lampposts/telephone poles in the Parish including West Thorpe on the four main roads in the village. There were 54. At 5 pounds per Poppy this would be £270. It was agreed to place the order for the 54 poppies, Councillor Collingwood stated that he would do this.
It was agreed that the ornamental soldier and wren would not be purchased this year as £325 seemed expensive and there would be a risk of these being stolen.
h) A discussion ensued about the hanging baskets which were felt to make a positive impact within the Parish. It was agreed that the 13 hanging baskets which had not been funded by local resident contribution this year would be paid for by the Parish Council.
It was agreed that the Parish Council would hold further discussions next year regarding hanging baskets across the parish.
i) Christmas Decorations
Councillor Colclough referred to the illuminated Fairybell feature, a sales picture and information for which he had circulated to other Councillors. It was agreed that this would look impressive in Coronation Gardens. As such it was agreed that the appropriate measurements would be taken in Coronation Gardens and if this allowed then the order would be made.
